Local School Cafeteria Workers Attend Culinary Boot Camp
The Sweet Smell of Success!
Two dozen school food service directors and cafeteria workers attended a week-long "culinary boot camp" sponsored by s'Cool Food at Franklin Elementary School in Santa Barbara during the week of August 11th.
The enthusiastic participants reviewed food safety and sanitation practices, honed their knife skills, attended lectures in flavor dynamics and culinary math, and learned new scratch-cooking techniques from school food reform experts from around the country. At the end of the rigorous but rewarding week, each participant received a chef jacket and hat, professional chef knives, digital cooking thermometers and a framed certificate of completion.
School districts in attendance included Lompoc, Guadalupe, Hope, Vista del Mar, Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez and Orcutt. Additional districts attended a one-day lecture on school food finances.
s'Cool Food is delighted to help empower Santa Barbara County's school districts to meet their goal of serving healthier, whole foods to their students, and proud of those who spent part of their summer vacation sharpening their cooking skills and increasing their culinary knowledge.
